Latest Alienware Laptops
1. Alienware m16 R1
Alienware’s gaming laptops are known for their cool looks and extra features, not just for being really fast (other brands can be just as fast). The new Dell Alienware x16 R1 is a good example of this. It has top-of-the-line hardware like an Intel Core i9-13900HK CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU. It also has Alienware’s unique style and lots of cool features. In our tests, it wasn’t as fast as some more expensive laptops, including our favorite, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8, which costs less and is more powerful. But the Alienware x16 R1 still got a good score from us because of its awesome keyboard and beautiful display.
The Alienware x16 R1 is a computer that can be expensive but has many features and choices for people who have a lot of money to spend. It can cost anywhere from $2,049 to over $4,000, depending on how you customize it.
Dell’s starting model has a decent 13th Generation Intel Core i7-13620H 10-core processor, 16GB of memory, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 laptop graphics, and 512GB of SSD storage.
If you want the best version, you can get the same model with a faster 14-core Intel Core i9-13900HK CPU, a better Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU, 32GB of RAM, and up to 4TB of SSD storage. This top-of-the-line model costs a whopping $4,099.99.
Our computer doesn’t have the highest specs, but it still has a fast processor and a good amount of memory. The graphics card is decent, and it has a 1TB storage drive.
There are some nice extra features, like a colorful touchpad and a high-quality keyboard with special key switches. The screen also refreshes faster than usual, making everything look smoother when you use it.
The Alienware x16 gaming laptop is built to be strong and durable with its anodized aluminum and magnesium alloy body. It’s not too thick or heavy for a powerful gaming laptop. It weighs 6 pounds and is about 0.73 inches thick, 14.4 inches wide, and 11.4 inches long, making it relatively slim compared to other similar laptops.
The laptop is designed to be thick so it can stay cool while running games smoothly. It has four cooling fans, copper heat pipes, and a special coating to keep the important parts cool. The laptop looks like it’s made for gaming with its flashy design and colorful lights that you can customize. When playing demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, the laptop gets loud because of all the cooling fans working hard.
The colorful touchpad on this laptop might catch your eye, but it’s really a matter of personal preference. I like RGB lights, but I thought the bright colors on the touchpad were a bit too much. If I were buying this laptop for myself, I would probably skip this feature.
The touchpad on this Dell laptop is smooth and responsive, thanks to its glass surface. However, compared to other laptops with larger touchpads, the 4.5-by-2.7-inch touchpad on this one feels a bit small. For example, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 has a touchpad that’s half an inch larger in each direction.
On the bright side, the keyboard on this laptop feels spacious and comfortable. Since it doesn’t have a numeric pad, the keys have more room to spread out, and they are well-spaced. This model also uses Cherry MX key switches, which provide a satisfying clicky feel. I personally prefer mechanical keyboards for my work, so having real mechanical switches in a gaming laptop keyboard is appealing to me. Just like the touchpad, each key on the keyboard lights up with customizable colors and patterns using the AlienFX software.
Lots of Ports in Convenient Places
The x16 laptop has plenty of ports in easy-to-reach spots, which is great. Unlike many slim laptops that only have USB-C or Thunderbolt ports, the x16 has a variety of connectors.
It has a mini DisplayPort, a full-size HDMI output, two USB connectors, two USB-C ports (one with Thunderbolt 4 support), and a microSD card slot. You can also plug in headphones or a headset using the 3.5mm jack. Overall, it has a lot of different ports for you to use.
I want to complain about something: The ports on the x16 are not in a good place. They are all at the back of the computer, in a panel between two ventilation grills. It would have been better if some ports were on the sides of the computer. The x16 is big and heavy, so there was enough space to do this. It would have made it easier to use the ports.
Maybe Dell did some research I don’t know about. Maybe people who like Alienware laptops usually keep them on a desk and don’t move them around much. But I don’t think it’s convenient to have to reach behind a big 16-inch laptop just to plug in headphones.
But there are two wireless connections that are easy to use: Wi-Fi 6E for internet and Bluetooth 5.3 for headsets and other devices. Just remember, there is no Ethernet port, so you’ll need a dock or adapter for a faster internet connection.
The best part of the Alienware x16 R1 is its big and colorful 16-inch screen. It’s taller than usual with a 16:10 shape. The screen is really sharp with a resolution of 2,560-by-1,600 pixels. It also refreshes super fast at 240 times per second. The colors are really vibrant, covering the full range of DCI-P3 colors. Plus, it has cool features like Nvidia G-Sync and Dolby Vision HDR.
Dell’s screen looks great, and the sound system has six speakers: two small speakers for high sounds and four bigger speakers for low sounds. This setup gives you rich sound and loud volume, and it also supports Dolby Atmos audio that makes the sound feel like it’s coming from all around you. Most gamers usually use a special headset for better sound and communication, but the Alienware x16’s built-in sound is pretty good too, even though you should still think about the noise from the fans.
We tested the Alienware x16 R1 to see how well it performs. We checked how fast the computer works and how good it is for gaming. We compared its performance with other top gaming laptops like the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 (from 2023), the MSI Titan GT77 (from 2023), and the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8, which won an award. We also looked at last year’s Alienware m17 R5 for those thinking about upgrading.

2. Alienware m16 R2
A smaller redesign doesn’t include Nvidia’s best RTX 4080 and 4090 graphics cards, but the Alienware m16 R2 laptop offers excellent gaming performance with a high-quality feel at a reasonable price.
About this product:
Alienware m16 R2 QHD+ 240Hz Gaming Laptop. It has a 16-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. The laptop does not have a touch screen, but it has a high refresh rate of 240Hz and a brightness of 300 nits.
The laptop is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 1 processor with a base clock frequency of 1.4 gigahertz. It has 16 gigabytes of RAM and a storage capacity of 1000 gigabytes on an SSD. The graphics are handled by an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU.

Overall, this laptop is designed for gaming and high-performance computing tasks, with a focus on speed, storage, and graphics capabilities.
3. Alienware x14 R2
The Alienware x14 R2 is a really good gaming laptop that is small and powerful. It has a slim metal design, a strong CPU and GPU, and a battery that lasts a long time. Plus, it’s not too expensive.
In 2022, Alienware released a new 14-inch gaming laptop called the Alienware x14 R1. Now, they have come out with a second version called the Alienware x14 R2. It costs $1,499.99, or $1,899.99 if you get the upgraded version. This new version is sleeker and more powerful than the previous one. It has a thin design with a new metal lid and frame. Inside, it has the latest Intel processors and Nvidia RTX 40 Series graphics. The laptop is easy to carry around because of its size, but it still has a great display and long battery life. While it may not be as powerful as some other 14-inch gaming laptops, like the Razer Blade 14, it is more affordable. Because of this, the Alienware x14 R2 is now the top choice for midrange compact gaming laptops.
The new x14 laptop is thin and made with high-quality materials. It looks different from last year’s version because Alienware has updated its design style, making it more simple and modern. This design change is part of Alienware’s current design theme called “Legend,” which is also being used in other Alienware products like the m18 laptop and desktop computers.
The laptop comes in a unique silver color called Lunar Silver, which is not commonly seen in gaming laptops. It is similar to the color of Apple’s MacBooks, but it is lighter. The laptop is made of high-quality aluminum and magnesium alloy, making it feel sturdy and well-made. Despite being slim and compact, it is powerful and stands out.
The x14 laptop is thin and light, measuring 0.57 by 12.6 by 10.2 inches and weighing 4.2 pounds. This makes it easy to carry around, even though it is a gaming laptop. The USB-C charger is also slim and compact, making it convenient to carry with you. This is important because larger chargers can make a laptop less portable.
Alienware says the hinge on the laptop is really cool and lets it be super thin. The Razer Blade 14 is a bit bigger and heavier than the Alienware x14, while the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is a bit smaller and lighter. The x14 is the thinnest but not the lightest in this group of laptops.
Being thin is good for a laptop, but it can make it harder for the laptop to stay cool and perform well. While it’s nice for a laptop to take up less space in a bag, being lighter is more important for making it easier to carry around. To help with cooling and airflow, the bottom of the laptop has been redesigned. I like how this laptop is designed and built. Later on, I’ll talk about whether the super thin design is worth it when I test it.
