HOW TO CONVERT A NON RESPONSIVE WEBSITE TO FULLY RESPONSIVE WEBSITE?

non responsive website to responsive website

From Mid 2012 onwards, responsive websites became the standard website format. Though still there are many websites, which does not have a responsive layout and formats. Responsive websites are an important factor for your business now because many of the visitors are using mobile phones and tablets these days for browsing. If your site is still running in nonresponsive format, what we suggest is, it’s high time for you to change your site. Let’s check the factors which we can adapt to change our site to responsive one.

Before starting up, we need to identify, what kind of website you have? Whether it’s a static web containing some HTML pages only or is it a dynamic one driven by some content management systems like WordPress, Joomla etc. if you are not sure of this, you need to consult t your IT expert about this.

ARCHITECTURE

To begin with, first, we need to make HTML wireframe to ensure, how your new site will look in various devices such as mobile phones, tablets, Kindle fire etc.  Complexity in making a wireframe will differ from project to project, depending on the complex architecture of your site.

TWEAKING THE DESIGN

Once after completing the above steps, we must review the design, its structure, and layout and make sure your site can fit with the responsive layout. This may require some changes partially or fully with the design part. This can be easily done using HTML and Photoshop.

PROTOTYPE

Once we completed the design on photoshop, the next process is to convert the PSD design to HTML format. While converting to HTML, we must define various breakpoints where CSS (Cascading style sheet)can play its role. CSS rules will be different for different devices according to their screen size.  CSS will also adjust images and videos since the infographic use is very high these days. This step plays an important role in converting a nonresponsive site to responsive one.

INTEGRATION

We have already found out, whether your site is either static or dynamic. If your site is static, what we need to do is create one responsive page and copy paste the contents from the old to new one. You can avail the help of HTML editor like Adobe Dreamweaver for this task.  The complexity of this step will depend on how big your site and contents are.But if it is nonresponsive, you just need to replace the old HTML template with the new responsive template.

Though it seems very technical, the process of converting a non-responsive to responsive is a form of art. You may not need to worry about how the experience of mobile users will be, as the site itself will take care of all that.
